ABOUT US

We are Bacto Crop, first-ever microbial agritech startup of Bangladesh. We’re using the world’s tiniest organisms to solve the world’s major problems

What we do

Problems

Chemical Agro-products including fertilizers and pesticides are vastly used in crop fields but these not only massively contribute in environmental pollution but also expedite global warming. Chemical pesticides and fertilizers adversely affect soil humus content, growth of microorganism species, plant growth and alters soil pH level. These conditions can lead to soil carbon and organic matter reduction, soil degradation, nitrogen leaching, soil acidification and release of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere indirectly enhancing global warming. Non-cultivable and waste lands are not much affected after providing inorganic fertilizers as these inhibit the growth of beneficial soil microorganisms.

Solutions

Bacto Crop’s mission is to accelerate sustainable agriculture and produce healthy crop plants in a faster time by shortening seed germination period with high gerination rate and seedling growth using beneficial soil microbiome. Previously conducted research project of Bacillus subtilis bacteria, we have introduced soil and seed treatment microbial solution to boost plant growth and shorten seed germination period.

Bacto Crop is currently focused on developing a pioneering fungi-based microbial solution to address and tackle salinity problem of plants in coastal areas of Bangladesh – a challenge that has long plagued agriculture. We are researching mycorrhiza fungi to enhance salinity resistance in plants without using any chemical agro-products, signaling a paradigm shift towards a more ecologically sound approach to enhancing plants’ resilience to salinity stress.
